Every year a large number of boys and girls join Upper School in Cheltenham Prep at 11+, coming from a variety of prep and primary schools. Entry at 11+ is selective and usually also guarantees entry into College at 13+.
Our Entrance Examinations take place at Cheltenham Prep in November in the form of the 11+ Entrance Day and 11+ Academic Assessment Day.
Our 11+ Entrance Day is focused on children experiencing the journey from 11+ though to College, showcasing some of the exciting elements which make up College life. The Entrance Day is meant to be fun and enjoyable, filling pupils with inspiration and aspiration. It also gives us the opportunity to see how children integrate, interact and socialise over the course of their day. At the end of the day, an informal afternoon tea is served at College for all candidates and their families, giving everyone the opportunity to chat to Prep and College staff.
For our 11+ Academic Assessment Day, children are required to join us to sit entry tests. We use the ISEB Pre-tests in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning and we ask candidates to also complete a short hand-written writing task. Each test lasts between 30-50 minutes.
ISEB Pre-tests are to be widely used to confirm a candidate's suitability for entry into senior schools at 13+. The tests assess an individual's ability to reason and may be used to help predict future educational attainment. It also helps to build understanding of individual potential and learning styles at this particular moment in a child's educational journey.
