College Prefects record an impressive 300km run for charity

From 7.45pm Saturday 14th November through to 7.45pm Sunday, Cheltenham College prefects braved the elements to run laps of the College in a bid to raise as much money as possible for charity. The final score of 309 completed laps in the 24 hours totalled over 300 kms, equivalent to running to Cambridge and back again!

Organised by the prefects, the event gained significant support amongst pupils, parents and staff as well as in the wider community, with local businesses such as Sub Way, the Regent Arcade and Intersport all sponsoring the pupils. Over 300 supporters and school pupils turned out for the Saturday evening launch, with the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmaster leading the way with a lap each in cat and mouse suits. Mike Todd, Head of Charities at Cheltenham College commented: “Not only has this run raised significant funds for the Emthonjeni Trust but it has also taught the prefects about serving others and working as a team. It has built school spirit and highlighted the strength of the community at Cheltenham College. The leadership skills, self-motivation and dedication shown by the prefects throughout the whole event were impressive and have earned them great respect and admiration from their fellow pupils. Watching them support and encourage each other was a privilege, especially during the early hours of Sunday morning. They have done College proud."

Nic Robbins, College Senior Prefect commented: “I didn't realise how hard this challenge would be until I was running in the horizontal rain at 4:15am! It was tough but all the school community really came together and we have raised a good amount for the Emthonjeni Trust. A really worthwhile event!'Donations are still coming in but so far the boys and girls have raised over £3000. The website for donations will remain open for a few days so if you would like to sponsor the pupils, please do so by visiting: www.everyclick.com/cheltenham-college

All fund raised will go to the Cheltenham based charity Emthonjeni Trust, set up in 2001 to help those suffering with HIV/AIDS in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
