Building on the success of our L6 Independent Learning Project, this academic year also saw us launch a 3rd Form (Year 9) Headmaster's Project. All the pupils had to complete a project over the Christmas holidays, based around the theme of 'The Elements'. The pupils could format their project however they liked and the range was extremely impressive; podcasts, movies, websites, posters, games, creative writing, essays, textiles etc etc.
All pupils interpreted the Elements differently - some went down the traditional route of 'wind, earth, water, fire' while others added a different twist, such as 'the elements to the perfect cup of tea' and 'the elements of surprise.'
All projects had to be handed in by mid January (impressively, not a single one was late!) and then marked by the Headmaster and our Head of Third Form, helped by two Sixth Form Academic Scholars; AJ Gilbert and Cat Wood.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of term in the Headmaster's Assembly and since half term, the projects have been on display for parents and pupils to view.
Miss Proudlove, Head of Third Form, commented: "Our aim was to challenge the Third Form to step outside of the mainstream curriculum; to think creatively and to work independently. Most importantly we wanted the pupils to find their own interpretation of the theme 'The Elements'. It was our hope that every pupil, regardless of ability or area of interest, would be motivated by this style of project and engage themselves academically. We have been bowled over by the standard of work produced, making the assessment and judging of the competition extremely difficult.
The variety of project formats was huge and there were some extremely fascinating interpretations of the theme. I was also delighted that every single member of the Third Form submitted a project by the deadline, highlighting the positive work ethos of this cohort. We have high hopes for them! I would like to thank all of the parents for their support with the project and my congratulations to the prize winners."
