As reigning Gloucestershire county champions, the Yearlings A netball squad travelled to Cornwall for the regional round of a national netball tournament. With 14 teams in the competition, the girls went into the first round of matches with minimal information about their opposition but with their heads held high. In the first four rounds the team won against South Wiltshire Grammar School, Parkstone Grammar School, Truro School and The Maynard School with some tight results to keep them on their toes. In the fifth match they played eventual tournament winners Millfield who were exceptionally strong (and tall!) and who won the match. A final pool game against King Edwards, Bath was neck and neck from start to finish and had parents and coaches screaming from the sidelines! The girls came back fighting in the second half and went through to the semi-finals as runners-up of the pool. In the next match the team took on a strong Marlborough College side and unfortunately the mistakes crept into their game as fatigue started to hit and they lost out on their place at Nationals by the skin of their teeth.
This is the furthest any U14 netball squad has ever got in this national tournament and an achievement that makes the future of College netball exceptionally exciting!
