I have been fortunate enough to be selected for the U19 squad of Severn Stars, a new netball superleague franchise between the University of Worcester and the University of Gloucestershire. Severn Stars aims to increase the amount of high-level netball on offer in the South West and create more opportunities for players in the region. My time playing regional level netball has really developed my ball skills and the strength and conditioning sessions have been superb. My club, Hucclecote, also helped me a huge amount in the selection process, and it was my coach at the club who persuaded me to try out for the Severn Stars in the first place.
The trials took the form of a training session which allowed the coaches to fully assess us. We did numerous different drills which tested skills such as agility, ball handling skills and fast feet and the trial ended with some match play. Following this session, I was lucky enough to be selected. I am very excited about this opportunity and the direction that my future in netball could take. On a personal level, the selection is really important to me because it is a result of hours of hard work. I will be coached by Mo’onia Gerrard, an ex-Australian Diamonds player (Head Coach), as well as Pamela Cookey who is the former England captain (Director and Technical Shooting Coach).
