A Week of Cross Country

A Week of Cross Country

Cheltenham Prep pupils have enjoyed a busy week on the Cross Country tracks - competing both home and away, and enjoying a healthy taste of success. As part of a busy Spring term in the sports arena, this week's Cross Country relays allowed pupils to work together as well as demonstrate the very best of their individual abilities.

Girls' Cross Country Relays at Warwick School

Some of The Prep's budding U9, U10 and U11 girls' Cross Country runners had the chance to participate in an unusual event: a Cross Country Team Relay. They travelled to Warwick Preparatory School who had invited the team, along with a number of other schools against whom Cheltenham Prep rarely competes: Spratton Prep, Harbury, Croft Prep, Manor Prep and Crackley Prep. It was a bitter, windy day - perfect for Cross Country!

After much tactical discussion over who should run in what order, all three teams gave it their all and really pushed themselves hard for their team mates. The U11’s came 6th, the U9’s came 4th and the U10’s ran superbly to come 2nd against some very impressive running from Manor Prep. It was an enjoyable day and staff were mightily impressed with the girls' grit and determination in their races - well done!

House Cross Country Relays

Each House selected just one boy and one girl from each year group to take part in the cross country relays this week. The race required one lap of the course per person before handing on to the next runner. For the first year ever, organisers added a tactical element and instead of running in year order, Middle and Upper School runners decided their running order. This made for an unpredictable and exciting finish! The final results were made of the individual boys' and girls' races' combined totals. Well done to Persia, who finished triumphant! The results were:

1st – PERSIA (18 pts)

ATHENS, ROME, SPARTA, TROY (all tied on 13 pts)

6th – CORINTH (8 pts)
