College was paid a visit by Samantha Rain, one of the winning contestants on the BBC Two series Bake Off: Crème de la Crème. Sam met with the College catering team to share her ideas for some wonderful desserts, something she is evidently very passionate about. Sam is a chocolatier at Paul Wayne Gregory Chocolates and a development chef with HB Ingredients, which specialise in premium ingredients for modern gastronomy. This company works closely with one of College’s food suppliers, Creed.
Sam will be coming back to College this term to work with our pastry chef, Steve, to do some chocolate work such as tempering. They will be working on ideas for desserts at the Cricket Festival, including a decadent centrepiece!
Sam won the BBC Two series Bake Off: Crème de la Crème last week, a competition to find the UK’s best pastry chefs. Sam’s final showpiece, along with her teammates Mark Tilling and Helen Vass, was themed around the life of a pastry chef: an all-chocolate show stopper incorporating copper bowls, chopping boards, spoons, spatulas, lemons and steaming pot on top, all for 100 guests!
