British Science Week's Demo Day

The Cheltenham College Chemistry department took part in the national Demo Day, part of an annual campaign during British Science Week that aims to inspire teachers and technicians to explore new concepts, provoke discussions and generate interest through Science demonstrations.  The department showcased a number of exciting and thought-provoking demonstrations, from Miss Beere's stunning thermite reaction with the Third Form to Mr Jones' highly complex electrochemistry in the "battery blue" reaction with the Upper Sixth.  Other demos included the lesser spotted copper thermite reaction, the ammonia fountain, the methanol rocket and sodium chloride formation and the Briggs-Rauscher oscillating reaction. Videos of these demonstrations can be seen on the Chemistry Twitter page @cheltcollchem
