On Friday, the Third Form was lucky enough to watch a play called Chelsea’s Choice as part of the Floreat Programme. The play tells the story of a group of three students who discover the diary of a girl called Chelsea. Chelsea was a young girl who, having fallen out with her friends and family, was approached by a man called Gary. Gary was older, owned a car, had a flat and treated her like an adult. Unfortunately Gary was not what he seemed to be! Chelsea's story is played out and examined by the three students who, along with their teacher, attempt to understand what happened to Chelsea and how it could have been prevented. The Alter Ego Theatre Company performed the play on behalf of the Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board and covered the serious issues of child exploitation, from misuse and abuse of online platforms through to sexual exploitation. It was a very effective way of promoting safe use of the internet, and giving the pupils a greater awareness of what constitutes a healthy relationship and where to go to get help and support. The play was very powerful and was followed by a Q&A session afterwards in which the pupils raised a lot of interesting points.
