Cheltenham's Head of Hockey selected to lead Wales women's squad

Cheltenham College’s Head of Hockey, Mr Gwyn Williams, has been selected as the Lead Coach for the Wales women’s squad playing in the European Indoor II Championships in Belgium next year. Mr Williams has been coaching the Wales U18 boys national age group squads for the past four years, taking them to two European Championships. He was also the Head Coach at the 2015 School Games held in Manchester, and was involved with the Wales men’s development squad, finishing fourth at the European Indoor Championships.

Mr Williams commented, "Both the men’s and women’s national teams in Wales have risen up the world rankings with recent successes, especially the men gaining promotion to the elite division of European hockey. Hockey is in an exciting phase at the moment in Wales and to be asked to be part of this on a higher level is a great honour. It's an amazing opportunity to test my coaching at a major championship and also a valuable part of my development as a coach in international hockey. I’m sure I will learn a lot that I can bring back to College and implement into our hockey programme."
