Fifth Form pupil begins international hockey career

Emily Drysdale (5th, W) has been selected for Wales U18 girls’ upcoming test series with Ireland, Switzerland and Scotland. Before her international selection, Emily was nominated to take part in the Hockey Wales 360 development sessions and from there, attended National Age Group Camps. She took part in the Futures Cup earlier last year and was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Head of Hockey, Mr Gwyn Williams, commented, “This is a fantastic achievement for Emily and recognition for her talent. Emily has been in our 1st XI since Fourth Form and has been outstanding, not only in her performances on the pitch but also in helping create a performance culture within the girls’ hockey XI. She is a committed individual when it comes to her training as a member of our Talented Athlete Programme and I hope this is now the start of long and distinguished international career.

Earlier this year, Cheltenham College was visited by Alex Danson and Hannah Macleod, two GB Hockey gold medallists who were on the winning team at the Rio Olympics 2016. Their coaching sessions and advice have given our hockey players valuable experience.”

Emily’s first test series will be against Ireland from Friday 31 March – Sunday 2 April and her next test series against Scotland and Switzerland will from Friday 14 – Sunday 16 April. We wish her the best of luck!
