High Hopes for our Boys' Hockey Teams

Both the U14 and U16 hockey teams played for the County Cup this week with the top two teams from each group progressing through to the West Preliminary rounds later in the term. The U16 team was a combination of Fourth and Fifth Form pupils, captained by Oliver Ruthven (5th, L). The team started well with victories over Rendcomb College and Kings, Gloucester, which put them top of the group. A loss to Dean Close meant that they needed to secure a victory over St Edwards, Cheltenham in the final match, which they duly did 6-0. This was an excellent achievement in a busy week for our U16 team, as a number of the players had also been involved over the weekend in winning the Wellington School Rugby 7s tournament

The U14 team started the tournament off with a sluggish performance and a loss. However, this galvanised the players and they responded positively by going onto win the rest of their matches against St Edwards, Rendcomb College, Sir Thomas Rich’s, Kings, Gloucester and Katharine Lady Berkeley and only conceded one goal in the process! As runners-up the groups now move through to West Preliminary Finals later in the term.
