On Monday, College welcomed two visitors to our Talented Athlete Programme (TAP) to give an informative talk on applying for American university scholarships. Ben Smith brought expertise from Sporting Elite, a company that helps British students connect with universities that could offer them a scholarship. Elisha Hande is a recent graduate from North Carolina State University who was awarded a full tennis scholarship, and recently graduated with a degree in Economics and German with GPA of 4.0. Both gave a presentation and answered questions that the potential scholars had.
Ben explained how important academics are, and the subjects that need to be taken for eligibility to a scholarship program, as well as describing how GPA is calculated and how to get noticed by coaches. Elisha talked through the application process, the differences between accommodation and the standard of living in the US and UK, routines and training, managing finances and career plans beyond the four years in America.
Also this week, Abby Aitken (4th, Ch)and Rob Caesar (4th, S) have flown to Boston, Massachusetts, to take part in an exchange with students Layla McDermott and George Zhai from Groton School for one month. We offer a very warm welcome to our American students and hope they are settling in well.
