Parent and Pupil Tennis Tournament

Cheltenham College Preparatory School WellChild tennis
The annual Prep School Parent and Pupil tennis tournament raised over £250 for WellChild. Every year there are more entries, more brother/sister combinations (despite the title of the tournament), the weather improves, standards are higher and the competition is fiercer!

Two pools of 13 pairs played in round-robin style in the morning to establish two top pairs to play a cross-over semi-final – this could mean that the final could be a replay of an earlier match! In the semi-finals Rebecca Todd (Y6) remained calm and collected to beat Monty Graveney (Y6) (who had won all 11 of his round-robin matches) while William Henry (Y5) (also semi-finalist 2013) played a steady game to defeat Sumaya Dowling-Membrado (Y8) and secure a place in the finals.

A South Africa v America final! At 6-6 and two changes of end it was anyone’s match to win. Consistent serving and great volleying from Rebecca pushed her and her father into the lead, at which point they became more confident, showing that they were the No. 1 pair winning 15-7.

Our thanks to the immense support from both day and boarding pupils, parents and pseudo-parents, siblings, staff and catering who contributed to a truly fun family event.
