Cheltenham College welcomed 52 Year 4 and 5 prep school pupils from St Hugh’s, The Richard Pate School, Abberley Hall and Swanbourne House to take part in the annual Netball Festival. The girls participated in workshop style sessions that focused on shooting, SAQ (speed, agility, quickness), attacking, defending and footwork. Once the girls had completed the workshops it was time to put the skills that they had learnt into practice in small five-minute games.
In the afternoon a number of the girls stayed to watch the 1st VII play a mixed U16/U18 Hucclecote side. Within their squad there are a number of girls who are currently playing at the top level - with one girl currently playing for England! The College team put up a good fight and a high level of netball was displayed for the spectators.
Sports Professional, Miss Betsy Willey commented, “These types of workshops are really valuable for focusing on the development of core skills. We hope that everyone had an enjoyable day and we look forward to the event again next year.”
