Singing at Worcester Cathedral

Singing at Worcester Cathedral

On Tuesday 16 April, the Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong at Worcester Cathedral. This was the choir's first visit to Worcester, with the exception of one of our top sopranos, Emma Ellis ( L6 Q) who sings in the cathedral every Saturday as a member of Worcester Cathedral Girls' Choir.

To the backdrop of a beautiful afternoon with the sunshine streaming into the cathedral, the choir sang a delightful programme of music in front of a much appreciative audience. The music included the Fifth Service by Thomas Tomkins, Organist of Worcester Cathedral in the 17th century, and Rejoice in the Lamb by Benjamin Britten. The choir sang superbly, with notable solos from several of our singers, Freddie Foster (3rd, NH), Amelia Butler (L6, W), Laurence Pemberton (L6, S), James Lloyd-Smith (L6, S), Emma Ellis (L6, Q) Ruth Matthews (L6, A) and Jolyon Dunn (U6, NH).

The service was beautifully accompanied on the new cathedral organ by Mr Ffinch and conducted by Mr Busbridge. The choir received many accolades after the service, including an invitation to come and sing again any time!
