The Eminson Cup

The Eminson Cup

Mr John Eminson was a member of the English Department and Housemaster of the Day House, Wilson. He had 3 children, Mark, Charlotte and Tom. John was passionate about football; his big love was Doncaster Rovers! John ran the staff Monday night football sessions at College for many years, and also the hotly contested staff versus pupils fixtures. Now sadly deceased, this short but significant annual tournament is in his honour.

This year, Boyne House managed to retain the cup, having won the tournament for the second year running, in a compelling final against Christowe. After the first two rounds, three Houses sat on level points, thus an exciting penalty shoot-out had to ensue in order to determine semi-final places. Boyne House beat Hazelwell in the first semi, and Christowe defeated Newick House in a tense Sandford Road local derby, leaving Christowe and Boyne House to battle it out in the final that was labelled the Battle of the Boyne.

This was a really enjoyable day, played in just the right spirit, so thank you to the boys for observing respectful and gentlemanly conduct. The Headmaster will re-award the cup to Boyne House in the end of term assembly.
