U14 Hockey team are county champions

The U14 squad has emerged as winners of the Gloucestershire Hockey Association U14 County Cup with four wins out of their five games. Starting the day against Wycliffe College, the team scored early in the game and some resolute defending and goalkeeping from Anabelle Wells (3rd, Ch) ensured they started the tournament with three points. Over the next two games, the girls settled down and applied the direction from the sidelines to earn a 4-0 and 3-0 wins over Pate’s Grammar School and Balcarras School respectively. The next encounter was Cheltenham Ladies’ College, and this was by far the best display from the girls as they responded to some tactical changes and applied the game plan to earn a well-deserved 2-0 win and ensure qualification and the title of county champions! The team now go through to the West Finals later on the term.

Head of Hockey, Mr Gwyn Williams, commented, “This is a talented group that has demonstrated some attacking flair in their previous fixtures. The girls have performed magnificently in this form of tournament with shortened matches. The players have stepped up their game and can now build towards their West Finals appearance. There is still plenty more to come from this group.”
