Young Writers' Day

Young Writers' Day

For the fifth consecutive year, Cheltenham College Prep School hosted the Young Writers’ Day as part of The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival’s Education programme. The event was open to Year 5 and 6 pupils from primary and prep schools all over Gloucestershire. This year 30 children from Holy Trinity Primary, Oaksey Primary, Sherborne Primary, St Gregory the Great, Woodmancote Primary and Cheltenham Prep attended the day.

Fleur Hitchcock, author of Shrunk!, which was selected as a Sunday Times Books of the Week, led three workshops inspiring these budding young writers to think about character, point of view, setting and dramatic openings.

Mr Jonathan Whybrow, Headmaster of Cheltenham Prep commented: “This day gives children a wonderful opportunity to work with and learn from a leading author. It provides them with a real insight into the world of fictional writing and lets them explore their creativity in an exciting and fun way.”
