I love this book.
I must love it - I've just finished reading it for the third time and never before have I been inspired to read a book three times!
Bryson's recounting of his assault on the Apalachian trail along with hapless fellow hiker Stephen Katz is written with his usual warm, engaging style. It has everything: history, geography, geology, ecology, psychology and generous helpings of comedy. If period romances are your thing, this possibly won't be for you. But if you enjoy good travel writing, wry humour and a taste of the wilderness give it a try - you might love it, too.
