Alternative Sports Day

Newick House began the year in traditional style, with their Alternative Sports Day. This is an event designed for the whole house to come together and compete in some weird and wonderful activities, before descending on the Llewellyns' garden for a well deserved match tea.

This year contained some old favourites as well as some new surprises. The day began with sausage and bacon rolls in the House, whilst the rugby fans watched a very exciting Wales vs South Africa game. (Contrary to rumour, this rivalry did not cause a rift in the Llewellyn household...). Then it was off outside for 3 hours of big team games. The House was divided into 4 sides, each captained by a legendary member of the Upper 6th: de Filippo, Park, Arundell, Cook. Each captain brought with them a certain je ne sais quoi as part of their leadership, which was perhaps best demonstrated in the Team Celebration Challenge. The green team created minimalist scenes, the white team were carefully orchestrated, the blue team pushed the boundaries of acceptable viewing, whilst the red team, the eventual winners of the celebration award, were prolific and action packed in their offerings.

After 3 hours of game playing, the results came in - and all 4 teams were tied together. Some houses would have settled this with a keen battle of wits; but Newick House decided to settle this the best way they know how - kicking a ball through a set of posts. Eventually, the contest was won by the Blue team - captain Jihwan Park proving inspirational in his leadership.

Tea in the garden then followed, as weary combatants refuelled and engaged in garden cricket and trampoline antics, before finally dusk sealed another highly eventful and entertaining Alternative Sports Day.
