An insight into politics

On Thursday 28th January we welcomed Martin Horwood, MP for Cheltenham and OC into College to speak to the Morley Society Politicians about the nature of politics and the job of an MP.

In what was a very interesting address, Mr Horwood gave a brief talk on the nature of Parliament and the History of the constituency of Cheltenham, before opening up to the pupils for their questions. He was faced with questions ranging from the obvious about recent expenses scandals, freedom of speech and the BNP, to his views on electoral reform.

It was a very enjoyable event, and good to see pupils really engaging with live issues. At the end, Mr Horwood encouraged all to take an active role in the political process - no matter the party.

After all, today’s 6th Formers are tomorrow’s decision makers….
