Archaeology Dig under Lower School

Archaeology Dig under Lower School!

Well not quite, but as part of their studies into finding out where information comes from for previous civilisations, Lower School, with the aid of John and his metal-detector, dug the area around their building. Here are some of their accounts: -

We got into groups of six and we went into the playground. We put measuring sticks in the flowerbed to measure where we were going to dig. When we were digging my group found 2 very old coins. One was made in 1945. We also found 2 bones and 2 bullets!

The archaeological dig was the best part of the day. Me and my team found lots of stuff like a golden plane. Me and Max found the bottom of an incendiary bomb. We used a metal detector and we found some coins from 1874. It took hard work and dedication to find anything. Overall I think we did a good job!

In History we are learning about archaeology, trying to find evidence from the past. I was paired up with Jessica, Jemima, Solly, Edward and Vanessa. Jessica found all the finds. The first one she found was an army soldier, then she found a bracelet. One side was just silver, but the other peculiar.

We went out and we were told to dig in the flower bed. We were put into groups to dig for artefacts. Our team found a silver cup and the hardest thing we found was a bullet shot. John the gardener is an archaeologist. He brought a metal detector but some were false alarms. The teachers said we should measure out the ground so we can split it into 6 sections. One of the teams found a helmet that we used in a World War battle. There was a lot to find but we only found a few. There was a goblet which was 5.5 cm. That is the dig, thank you for reading.

In our dig we found lots of cool stuff like pottery, a metal helmet and more. I really liked being an archaeologist. It was one of the best days of my life. The best part was when I found a part of a bomb. I was quite scared!

At the dig we put our boiler suits on and went outside. We lined up and the teachers asked us where we think we should dig. Someone put their hand up and they thought we should dig in the flowerbed. So we did, first we divided it into six areas and each team went in an area. The first team to find something was my team. We were just digging and we hit something hard. After a while we realised it was a hammerhead. Next we found more things like coins and our tam found a bone! But the best fid of the day was an army helmet. It looked very old because it had bits chipped off! We all thought it was amazing. We all wished our team had found it but the tam that found it was team 3, and they were all jumped for joy. The next day before CDT, when the girls all were at a hockey match, Mrs. Busbridge said to us secretly “I think there might be some more treasures outside for us to find.” So we went outside and started digging. At the end we had found 2 things. Another coin and a thing we thought would go on a machine gun.
