In the Third Form, all pupils follow a structured six-week course, in rotation, incorporating drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics. This is intended to give students an introduction to GCSE project work so that they can make an informed decision on their GCSE optional subject choices. For GCSE, we follow the AQA syllabus which can be found on the AQA website.
A Level Art is open to any pupil who has passed GCSE Art (preferably at Grade B or above), or who has shown an equivalent standard of practical ability in Design Technology at GCSE.
We follow the Edexcel syllabus which can be found on the Edexcel website.
Although the syllabus provides a framework, it should be regarded as a means to develop interest, skills and experience rather than as an end in itself. The production of a varied portfolio of work showing evidence of independent ideas, ability and commitment is proof of artistic worth and particularly important for those applying for Art College.
Applications for Foundation Course at Art College are generally submitted in December of the Upper Sixth year for interviews in the following Spring.
