CDT

It might sound a little old- fashioned, but we still refer to DT as ‘CDT’ at the Junior School. This is because we believe that to leave ‘Craft’ out of our title would be to discount that part which is centrally important to what we do here.

CDT is taught throughout all age groups at the Junior, and from Year 4 onwards in apurpose-equipped workshop. By the time the pupils leave in Year 8 they will have received a thorough grounding in how to design their way out of a practical problem.

They will have also covered both traditional CDT techniques such as carpentry and light metalwork, in addition to producing printed circuits, making soft toys, and learning how to make things in plastic. Our department is, quite simply a hub of activity. It’s very regularly open in ‘free time’ where pupils can pursue their own projects, or pupils can join our ‘Model Engineering’ club and help to build, maintain and run a small fleet of large radio-controlled model warships. The CDT opportunities are endless!
