Class 4W Get The Low-Down on The Slow-Down

Each term each Lower School class will benefit from a different enrichment experience, where a specialist teacher exposes them to skills and concepts that explore fascinating aspects of the world around us through the subjects that they love. This term as part of the programme, 4W are investigating slow motion photography with Mr Isaachsen. They have learned how the camera can slow down events to show us details that our eyes cannot normally see. (Watch the video below!)

The eight week slow-motion project has been designed to be totally cross-curricular in nature and include learning objectives that link to work they are doing: Science, Art, PE and of course ICT and included a series of fascinating hands-on activities, including:

  • Creating animated artwork inspired by the work of Eadweard Muybridge, the pioneering English photographer.
  • Conducting experiments on everyday objects using high-speed cameras to reveal fantastic details normally invisible to the human eye.

In the next few weeks the pupils will be turning the high-speed cameras on themselves looking at how they move and jump and ultimately how we can use slow-motion footage to analyse and improve performance in games and PE.
