This year, the Public Schools Rackets Singles Championships at Queen's saw a College victory at the blue riband event.
Chris Stout (H), U6 pupil won The Foster Cup, beating the number 1 seed in the Final, 3 games to 1. In simple terms, Chris is confirmed as the best schoolboy in the country. OCs Owen (2010), Shiner (2008) and Rock (2005) all reached the final of this most prestigious schoolboy singles event but did not manage to secure the silverware. In fact, the last Cheltonian (and current World Champion) to win The Foster Cup was actually Chris' brother; Jamie Stout (2000 and 2001).
This year, Chris Stout was seeded 3 and dispatched opponents from Harrow and Millfield before having to raise his game against the tricky number one from Malvern in the semi-final. Having secured a victory, top seed Jamie Giddins from Eton was his final opponent. The final was a close one (15/11, 14/17, 16/13, 15/5), but in the end, Chris' hard-hitting back hand and domination of the front of the court meant that the Etonian was always playing catch-up.
College's other runner in The Foster Cup, Alex Duncliffe-Vines (NH) took the number 4 seed from Harrow to a final game before losing closely 15/11.
Jack Dymoke (NH) reached the last 16 of The Renny Cup as did Adrian Montagu (H) in the U16 event, the Incledon Weber.
It was perhaps a quieter Queen's than some of the recent ones College has experienced, but Stout's victory ensured a champagne finish!
Many thanks to those OCs and staff who supported us at Queen's - this ensured that we were not outdone by the Eton masses!
