Congratulations to the Cheltenham College boys’ U18 hockey team which has won the Gloucestershire round of the National Schools Cup, run by England Hockey Board. The team now goes through to the West of England Preliminary Finals which will be held at the College on Thursday 23 February.
In their journey through to the next round, the boys played three games against local opposing sides, commencing with a 7 – 2 victory over St Edward’s. The next game to secure qualification was against King’s Gloucester, from which the boys emerged with a 2 – 0 victory. The final game against Dean Close was the closest of all, with the College boys eventually winning 2 – 1 and going through to the next round unbeaten.
Gwyn Williams, Head of Hockey at Cheltenham College commented: “The boys performed strongly throughout the competition and fully deserved each of their victories. Ably captained by Harry Symes-Thompson, they played as a committed team and despite some tough opposition, never let the pressure get to them. We’re now looking forward to the next round and hopefully to progressing through to the National Finals.”
