We introduce Third Formers to number of core areas associated with the range of Design Technology courses available in the Fourth Form at GCSE.
The content has been selected and developed so as to prove just as relevant to those pupils who may not decide to continue the subject at GCSE.
With a provision of 2 periods per week, pupils will learn about resistant materials, graphics and CAD/CAM, systems and control: electronics and textiles technology. ICT has an important role to play in the delivery of the whole subject and as a consequence pupils will experience a whole range of computer applications throughout the whole year.
GCSE
Pupils study one out of the three GCSE Design Technology courses available:
- Resistant Materials Technology
- Textiles Technology
- Systems and Control Technology
All the courses are from the Edexcel suite (
Resistant materials,
Systems and Controls, and
Textiles)
All involve studying:
- specific materials and components and associated manufacturing processes
- the design process
-
- the influences placed on design by new technologies, fashions, environmental issues and cultures.
A Level
At A Level, we follow the Edexcel suite and currently offer:
Product Design: Resistant MaterialsTextiles Technology The Product Design syllabus enables pupils to develop their creativity, presentation and practical skills, to apply knowledge and understanding of technological activities and to develop critical thinking and collaborative skills.
Pupils will be expected to contribute in a much more active role than at GCSE. They will be given guidance but ultimately must be self-motivated and determined to succeed at the highest level.
