Pupils are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results, with many outstanding individual performances. Of all the examinations taken, 28% were graded A* and a further 28% graded A. Overall, 81% of all papers sat were graded A*-B with 40% of pupils gaining 8 or more A*s and As across the board. This strong GCSE performance follows the exceptional A Level results that the Sixth Formers achieved last week, reflecting the increased focus on work ethos and independent thinking at the College.
All pupils sat the International GCSE [IGCSE] in Maths, English Literature, Science, Geography and History alongside GCSEs in other subjects. Academically more rigorous than their GCSE counterparts, these examinations require pupils to study, understand and question more deeply. Some IGCSEs are not, however, recognised by the Government’s Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and may therefore be automatically excluded from School League Tables.
Headmaster Dr Alex Peterken commented: “The pupils have worked extremely hard to achieve these results and fully deserve this success. The IGCSE especially is a highly demanding examination that challenges pupils not only in their knowledge but in how they think and apply their learning. Achieving such high standards in these examinations, in particular the high proportion of A*-A grades will give them the best possible preparation for A Levels, as well as top universities courses where such skills are vital to stand out from the crowd. Our pupils now have an exciting Sixth Form programme ahead of them where they will embark not only upon A Levels but also our unique Leadership and Life Skills course and independent learning project.”
