French

Our French Department is devoted to ensuring that the teaching and learning of French is enjoyable and interesting for each individual regardless of ability. We want to provide pupils with a stimulating learning experience which contributes positively to their general education.

We are very aware that the teaching of French needs to be mainly done in the target language so that pupils acquire good fluency. However we also believe that speaking English during lessons is sometimes necessary, in particular for lower ability pupils who are not confident in themselves and need constant reassurance. It also helps explain certain grammatical rules!

We make sure at all times that real language is presented to our pupils so that when they meet French people or they correspond with them, they can communicate with them to the best of their ability.
