Girls' Gym

Sport plays an important part in the life of the College - this is true for all whether the pupil is a keen team games player or prefers to participate at the individual level. Girls Gym is an option all year round for those not participating in the team games for that term. This option has become very popular in recent years with up to forty 5th to Upper 6th form girls making this their first choice Game.

The aim of gym is to give the girls balanced, all round fitness, learning of the importance of muscular strength and endurance, cardio-vascular fitness and flexibility and postural awareness. It is also aims to teach the correct use of gym- based equipment that is likely to be the most frequently used fitness option in life after school.

Resistance equipment, free weights, Fit balls and a whole range of equipment are introduced to the girls as well as class-based activities. Outside instructors are used once each week to teach a variety of Fitness classes; Zumba, Pilates, Boxercise and even hopefully Street Dance - the list adds true variety of experience to the Girls. There is something for everyone, each week being motivating and varied.

Gym is usually taught in the Sports Hall Balcony Gym by Ruth Cook, the College’s Fitness Instructor and Rehabilitation Specialist. Here both cardio-vascular and resistance machines such are supplemented by a range of equipment from Fitness bands to Foam Rollers and TRX machines. Classes are taught in either the Sports Hall or the recently refurbished Junior School Barn.
