The House Singing competition took place in Chapel on Friday 25th February, with Newick keen if somewhat underrated contenders. Whilst other Houses opted for more conventional song choices, the ever adventurous and avant-garde Newick opted for the little known yet hauntingly melodic 'Dice' by Finn Quayle, combined with the energetic and the aptly (or not, as it turned out) named "Tonight's gonna be a good night" by the Black Eyed Peas, both of which sandwiched the surprise of the night, "Barbara Streisand" by everybody's grandmother's favourite group, Duck Sauce.

While other Houses relied on musicality and harmonic expertise, Newick fell back on their traditional strengths: House spirit, endless enthusiasm and ridiculous dance routines. That their innovative singing was not entirely recognised by the adjudicator was a shame, but the boys did themselves and the House Proud, not least because they were the only House to do everything themselves (song choice, rehearsal, accompanying), not relying on outside help from Music staff.

Huge thanks and praise must go to Will McNeile, who organised and conducted the House superbly, and to Nick Knudsen and James Strutt for accompnying the songs.
