This time it was the turn of the Seniors to bring home a House Pots trophy as the Senior Tennis VI won an extraordinary final.

Captained by the wily Archie Larthe (U6), the Senior team went into their final, against a very strong Hazelwell team, looking like real underdogs. Initially, it looked like our worst fears might come true: the doubles pair of Captain Larthe and Dimitri Tsitos lost quickly, followed by George Lee losing his singles match. However, the match soon began to turn. Conrad Beynon put in a fantastic effort to win his match, and then Tom Wand pulled off the shock of the day by beating one of the best players in the College.

This meant that the tie all came down to the final game, with James Strutt carryingNewick'shopes. The crowd gathered round the far court to watch this titanic struggle between the two 5th seeds, and the tension was almost unbearable. 4-4 became 5-5, with both players becoming equally tentative - it really was all down to who held their nerve. Strutt then broke serve to go 6-5 ahead, and amidst much apprehension, Strutt eventually held his serve to win the set 7-5. Incredible scenes.
Unfortunately, the Junior side could not match the exploits of the Senior team, going down 5-0 to an excellent Hazelwell side.
