Housemaster: Simon Conner (SEC)
SEC was educated at Sedbergh School in Cumbria before going on to Durham University where he studied Geography. His first teaching post was at Uppingham School for three years after which he moved to Cheltenham College in 2001. At College he has had a variety of roles apart from teaching Geography. He has led the Advanced infantry, been Master in charge of Scholarships and coached hockey and still coaches rugby and cricket whilst being Housemaster.
He lives in Hazelwell with his wife Christina who is Head of Religious Studies and a Learning Support teacher at Cheltenham College Junior School and their five year old daughter, Autumn. His interests are mainly sporting. He loves golf and his main claim to fame is two holes in one. Christina plays a large role in the House. She is presently covering for Matron and providing a huge support for the boys.
Resident Tutor: Tom Richardson (TFGR)
TFGR is an old boy of College and was Christowe’s Head of House. As well as being a full time sports coach, he is a professional rugby player playing scrum-half for Stourbridge. Sport is his passion. He has represented England at Rugby and Cricket and he is also an accomplished hockey and rackets player. His hobbies include golf, films and reading philosophy and theology.
Resident Tutor: Jo Smith
Jo is a Chemistry teacher at College and lives in Hazelwell with her husband Robin and dog Alfie. She enjoys wakeboarding and is looking forwarding to leading the first Hazelwell trip.
Non-Resident Staff
Matron: Tracey Hopson
Tracey has been associated with the House for 7 years. She became assistant matron in 2008. She covers the House during the day when Matron is off-duty. She is very popular due to the fact that she organises ‘Break’ which involves various edible goodies, which keep the boys going throughout the morning.
She also acts as a listening ear, which many of the boys appreciate on a regular occasion. Her interests are all family based and she even sees the boys as part of their extended family.
Assistant Matron: Di Bailey
Di returns to Hazelwell after several years traveling and is looking forward to being involved in the House again.
Tutors
The tutors are responsible for a group of boys in the House in terms of their academic, social and pastoral welfare. The tutors meet their tutor group six times a week and on an individual basis as well. They also are found in the House doing duties.
Tim Brewis (TEB)
TEB began his professional life as a soldier, serving as an Officer in 1st Battalion, The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment. Several tours of Northern Ireland convinced him that the classroom was infinitely preferable to the interior of a Snatch Landrover. Three inaugural years in the English Department at CLC gave him a thorough grounding in the trade before he joined Cheltenham College. Now in his third year here, he has been appointed Head of English and Drama.
TEB is married to Georgina, has two sons, Oliver and Henry, and a daughter, Helena. This year TEB is a tutor of the 3rd Form.
Mark Briers (MPB)
MPB is the College Cricket and Rackets professional. He played cricket for Durham in his professional career. Whilst at College he coached James Stout (Greenite) who is now the world champion.
Alex Isaachsen (AHRI)
AHRI is originally from Melbourne, Australia, where he studied teaching at Deakin University. He came to the UK 15 years ago after completing a post-graduate degree at Universidad del Pais Vasco. in San Sebastian (Spain). At College he is Director of ICT which involves the strategic development as well as the teaching of ICT. He enjoys cooking, camping and travel (and any combination thereof). AHRI is a tutor of the 5th Form.
Peter Lelliot (PJL)
PJL is an Art teacher at College and has also had many of his paintings published. He is presently studying for a masters to enhance his teaching credentials and can be found in his tower producing many masterpieces. He is keen to get involved and was the only member of staff prepared to risk a part in the House play. He is a tutor of the 3rd Form.
Richard Moore (RETM)
RETM is 2nd in Department for History and Politics and involved in a huge number of other areas in College. He coaches the 2nd XI cricket, netball and the Junior Colts rugby. His passion is cricket and in the Summer spends many an hour representing a range of clubs. He is a tutor for the 4th Form.
Stephen Morton (SCJM)
SCJM is a graduate of the University of Wales and the the University of Birmingham and teaches Economics, Business Studies and Critical Thinking. He likes to spend his spare time gradually going deaf from attending rock concerts, his favourite combo being a band named Yes. This year Stephen is a tutor of the 4th Form.
Mark Ward (MHW)
MHW is Head of Art and has been a tutor in Hazelwell for a staggering 27 years. He has even tutored one of the present cohort’s father (although at another school). Recently he took a sabbatical and produced an outstanding show of paintings that he had produced. He is also a very talented pianist and has lit up the variety show on several occasions. He is a tutor of the 5th Form.
