International debut album released

Cheltenham College Chamber Choir is delighted to announce its debut album: Coeperunt Loqui,  a stunning collection of Renaissance songs sung with haunting beauty and perfection. Available in shops nationwide, the CD is also available from College for the special price of £10.

Coeperunt Loqui is the Chamber Choir’s first international release, recorded in May under the direction of College Organist Alexander Ffinch. Meaning ‘they began to speak’, the title symbolises the relative youth of the choir, formed only recently in 2007. It is also testimony to the accomplished and polished sound of the choir, which is enjoying an impressive international reputation following its summer tour to New York.

The tour saw the choir performing at Trinity Wall Street, the host church of the 9/11 memorial service, the prestigious St Thomas Church 5th Avenue and the Cathedral of St John the Divine.  Now back in the UK, the choir is continuing to sing its unique repertoire all over the country, performing evensongs in Winchester Cathedral, Merton College, Oxford and of course, in the glorious gothic Cheltenham College Chapel.  This year they opened the Cheltenham Music Festival with an evensong and hope to do so again next year.

Consisting of 22 girls and boys aged between 13 and 18, the Chamber Choir is one of 2 choirs at Cheltenham College. Since its foundation, the choir has rehearsed and sung a variety of choral pieces, ranging from the 16th Century up to the modern works of John Taverner and Avo Part. Tracks on the CD include: Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus & Bendictus, Agnus Dei and Magnificat.

College Organist and Coerperunt Loqui Director Alexander Ffinch commented: “It has been an unforgettable year for the Chamber Choir which, through the talent and dedication of its members, reached a very high standard. It is excellent that we have been able to capture this on CD.”
