JIG CD launched

JIG, College’s top modern jazz group, has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a recording of a CD; the 5th since starting up the group.

Consisting entirely of students who audition for the band each September, JIG produces new talents and tracks every year. This year has seen 15 members in the band, with 15 year old drummer Piers Baillie the youngest ever musician in JIG’s history. Throughout the year the band has performed several concerts to wide ranging audiences, including College socials, charity fashion shows and local Prep Schools.

The CD, available soon to purchase from College for just £10, contains 10 sensational tracks, including ‘Wake me up before you go go’, ‘Lady Marmalade’, ‘Sex on Fire’ and ‘Whole lotta love’. Each track, chosen by the students themselves, reflects the band’s own distinctive twist, with the whole collection offering a fascinating blend of jazz and rock.

Mrs Mew, who set JIG up 20 years ago and still leads it today commented: “We are thrilled to present JIG’s 5th CD which showcases perfectly the stunning vocal and instrumental qualities of the band. What makes JIG so distinctive is its repertoire of Jazz and Rock Fusion – it is so much more than just a jazz group. Congratulations to all the students involved for recording such a professional set of tracks.”
