The aim of sport at The Junior is to provide as many opportunities as possible for all children of all abilities.
Athletic development is key from the earliest age, with sport-specific skills being introduced through the school at the appropriate ages. The wonderful facilities, expert coaches and experienced teachers are utilised to the full in preparing for the main team games, which are hockey, netball, tennis and rounders for the girls and rugby, hockey and cricket for the boys.
At The Junior, we don’t just believe in having one main team for each sport, but several teams. It is common place for A, B, C and D teams for both boys and girls to have a strong fixture list for each term at under 13 and under 11 against local schools, allowing almost all pupils that important experience of being in a team at their own relative ability level.
In addition to the main sports, swimming is part of the curriculum and all pupils up to Year 6 swim at least once a week in the course of their lessons. We also have a Swim Team that has termly fixtures throughout the year for the under 8s and above. We also prepare pupils for athletics, badminton, squash and skiing teams, and regularly enter local and national competitions in these fields.
There certainly seems to be a team for everybody!
STOP PRESS: Congratulations to the U13 Girls who qualified for the Yazoo National Finals in Nottingham on 7th May, following the West Tournament at Millfield last week-end.
