Lashings of cricket

Over half-term, two Newick boys had some very special cricketing experiences: Guy Mitchell (U6) receiving a presentation at Lords during the recent 2nd Test; and Charlie Turrell playing against The Lashings, an invitational side full of international and county players.

Guy's family enjoyed a very special day out at Lords on the 2nd day of the test match vs Sri Lanka. The MCC honour those players who score centuries against them,  and Guy, who scored 135 for the XI in last season's match, was one of the fortunate recipients. This was a lovely way to recognise what was a superb season for Guy, who scored four centuries, averaging 57.6 whilst also keeping wicket. A few days prior to that, Charlie Turrell (L6) played for his club side, Rockhampton CC, against the Lashings, an Invitational side made up of current and former international players. The Lashings side that day included such cricket luminaries as John Emburey, Devon Malcolm, Richie Richardson, Shaun Udal, Mohammed Akram and Phil Defreitas. Whilst Akram's century ensured that the Lashings ended up comfortable innings, Charlie still had some memorable moments, taking the wicket of Shaun Udal, as well as making a creditable 15 runs.
