Netball

Netball is the major sport for girls in the Spring Term. This year we have proudly fielded 5 Senior and 6 Junior teams, with every girl being given the opportunity to represent College in Inter School matches. Our fixture card is strong and includes competitive schools such as Marlborough, Clifton and Bromsgrove. Recently we have taken the 1st VII a step further and played them against University and Higher Education College sides. At every age group we enter County tournaments and other annual events.

The combination of College’s extensive facilities, (2 indoor courts and 5 outdoor ones) with dedicated coaching staff means that players have plenty of opportunities to further their game and progress as netball players. The girls are also given access to SAQ training as well as strength and conditioning advice. This whole experience helps them to become stronger, fitter and faster athletes.

For those girls keen to improve further, we encourage them to attend club training and play in local leagues. Those who are extremely talented are further encouraged to trial for Regional and Satellite camps with the hope of them being selected for the England Talent and Performance programme.

In recent years we have built a link with the University of Gloucestershire. This has given us access to more coaches, who have played an important role in ensuring every girl is given specialised and enjoyable coaching.

This year sees huge improvements to College Netball. We have secured a strong link with Hucclecote Netball Club, who now play all their Regional and Premiership matches here in the Sports Hall. The College girls have benefitted from this link already with the first VII training alongside Hucclecote players on a Tuesday evening. We have also appointed Gilly Salter as a netball specialist for the coming season. At present, she coaches Hucclecote Premiership side, England Academy squads and is an England Talent Scout for Junior players. We have every confidence the girls and staff will benefit from her expertise.
