Netball is the major sport for girls in the Spring Term at Cheltenham College. Over 150 girls play netball and every girl is given the opportunity to represent College in a competitive and comprehensive fixture card.
We have excellent facilities at College with 3 indoor and 3 outdoor courts and in 2015 we also had our double sports hall floor refurbished including new lines, varnish and sunken posts. In addition, the outdoor Netball/Tennis courts were also resurfaced completely, including sunken posts.
Our coaching team at College is very strong, with every team being looked after by a dedicated member of staff. In addition to this, every team will be coached during the week by our professional coaches who have a range of experience that they passionately pass on in their training sessions. Included in our professional coaches is Gilly Salter, she is an extremely talented and experienced coach and has coached at the highest level, most recently Gilly has been named the U17 Severn Stars Head Coach. In addition, Gilly is an England talent scout for junior players.
At every age group, we enter the national schools' netball tournament which involves a county, regional and national round. Cheltenham is fast becoming a regular attendee at the regional stage of the tournament where many national finalists also compete.
For those girls keen to improve further, we provide extra support in conjunction with our Talented Athlete Programme (TAP). Currently, we have girls who are involved in the England Performance Pathway and also involved in the National Performance League with local superleague clubs; Severn Stars and Team Bath. Furthermore, we have secured a strong link with Hucclecote Netball Club, who now play all their Regional and Premiership matches in our sports hall. There are plenty of opportunities for girls to excel and they will be supported throughout.
Our aim is that every girl will have improved during the course of the season and this is made possible by our fantastic coaches and members of staff who make every girl feel a valued and important part of their respective team.
I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of my daughter for a fantastic term of Yearling netball! She has so enjoyed being part of the team, and has been inspired by everyone in your department. How lucky to have such fantastic coaching.
