Polo at Cheltenham College has been a popular and successful club for nearly twenty years. It is a fast and addictive sport where unusually, one can have boys and girls, and all ages, playing on the same team. Experienced players and complete beginners are equally welcome and well catered for, and tuition is tailored to suit the class.
College plays all year round and we are very lucky to have Longdole Polo Club in Birdlip only twenty minutes away. Here, the players are provided with well-trained ponies and the necessary equipment. They are coached in small groups by Hurlingham qualified coaches.
Third and Fourth forms play on Mondays with Fifth and Sixth forms playing on Wednesdays.
Cheltenham College is a member of SUPA (Schools and Universities Polo Association) and enters both arena and outdoor tournaments. There are also inter-school fixtures for all levels throughout the season. The first team play in the highly competitive HPA School League in the summer term.
The highlight of the polo season is the Cheltenham College Polo Day held at Longdole in the summer term. Hundreds of supporters roll up to enjoy a fabulous family day out. The first team play an invited side, from, in recent years, such schools as Eton, Stowe and Marlborough. The Old Cheltonians put on a superb High Goal match and the Cheltenham College Preparatory School have more recently been involved playing against another Prep school.
Cheltenham College has won the SUPA Arena Championships multiple times in previous years, including the last championship in 2015.
