Polo Invitation Day - 5 June

On Saturday 5th June, Cheltenham College will be going head to head with Eton College in the exclusive annual Polo Invitation Day, hosted by Cheltenham College at Cirencester Park Polo Club. Widely regarded as a major event in the Polo calendar, it is expected to draw one thousand spectators from all over the country.

The first match of the day at 2.30pm will see the Cheltenham & Eton A teams fighting it out for ‘The College Polo Trophy’ while the second match will feature many players from the Old Cheltonian and Old Etonian fraternity; the majority of whom are now well known names in the polo world.

2010 will be the event’s 9th consecutive year and Cheltenham will be looking to reclaim the trophy from Eton. Since the Invitation Day’s inauguration in 2001, Cheltenham has won the event six times with the Old Cheltonians winning twice. Cheltenham College is the UK’s premier polo school and its teams have been National Polo Champions for several years running, smashing all SUPA records. This year Cheltenham College has won both the National Girls School Arena and the National Senior School Arena intermediate Tournaments.

Past and present pupils from both schools, as well as their parents and other distinguished guests, will enjoy a Champagne Reception followed by picnics and polo. A host of exclusive exhibitors in the shopping marquee, a BBQ by ‘The Black Farmer’ and a Pimm’s Marquee will provide an additional element to the day.
