On behalf of the 2011-12 College Prefects and Maggies, we would like to thank all of you for the incredible support you have shown to the College Prefect Charity Event this year.
After a rousing send off in the Dining Hall, having watched a video (now on YouTube, we gather!) professionally put together by the Prefects, covering the build up to the event, the College Prefects’ set about their challenge. For the first lap, the Prefects were joined by the Headmaster, which started a session of 4 hours of running, during which time 36 kilometres were covered. This was followed by a 12 hour cycling session, where the Prefects covered 434.38 kilometres on an exercise bike. Blessed with beautiful weather and lovely moonlight, they handled the early morning session with grit and determination. At 10.45am they started four hours of swimming and did 10.95 kilometres. The final leg was another run of 4 hours. Overall they covered 546 kilometres!
During Sunday, the Prefects organised a number of fun fund-raising activities, including a coconut shy, College’s own ‘It’s a knockout!’ – hosted by Stephen Clark and his team, a 5-a-side football tournament and a Sponge Splash. Much fun was enjoyed by all. BBC radio was on hand to speak to many of the staff, pupils and parents.
Working with the Maggies Cancer Care in Cheltenham is turning into a tremendous partnership and we were delighted to host two Maggies volunteers during Sunday afternoon. As you know, the College community was significantly affected by cancer last year, making this an appropriate charity. You may be interested to hear that on the 29th June 2012, Maggies will also partner with College when the Cheltenham Association host the Jubilee Ball.
Special thanks to our sponsor Shloer (www.shloer.com) who made a substantial contribution to the event. The drinks were enjoyed by all.
Thank you to all of you who have already given so generously both financially and emotionally. If you have not had a chance to donate, please feel free to do so as the Just Giving site will be left open until after half-term. The details are as follows (www.justgiving.com/CCPrefectTriathlon). As of 5 pm on Tuesday evening, close on £7,500 had been raised from all sources. What a tremendous effort.
A big thank you, on behalf of the College Prefects, to many of the staff who helped pull this event together. It is incredible what parts of College an event of this size can touch. To all the unsung heroes, thank you. Hopefully it has helped pull the Community closer together, one of the original aims of the event when it started 3 years ago.
College Prefects take a bow – you have served your school well. We are proud of you and how you represented the College.
Will Charlesworth and Lydia Shortt deserve a special mention as they have been working on this event since June.
Kind regards,
Michael Todd, Master in Charge of College Charities
and
Lisa Robinson, Head of Fundraising at Maggies
