The challenge was as follows: to put on a 30 minute Shakespeare production, to be performed at a professional theatre in less than 4 weeks… Drama teacher Jill Douglas reports:
“I don’t know how we managed it but we did! The Year 8 cast and crew of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ did a fantastic job and put on a show at the Everyman Theatre that was a credit to them all.
The tense, but exciting, atmosphere at the theatre added to a very special day that I’m sure they will never forget. The day was filled with technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, professional actors and directors, interviews with the press and photos with Martin Horwood, MP who attended the performance. Chris Grace, the founder of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, was also there and made some fabulous comments about our show.
Well done to cast and crew, not forgetting Miss Anderes, Mrs Bond and Mrs Jones who were as much a part of this as anyone.
Below are just a few comments that were made about the performance:
“Genuinely fantastic for a Year 8 age-group. I could hear every word. and the production had great charm. The strong acting
made it very credible indeed.”
Chris Grace, Founder of the SSF “Excellent comic timing. Kate was brilliant and powerful. Petruchio had on the most outrageous leather outfit I’ve ever seen!” Martin Horwood, MP
“Your production had a theatricality that is gorgeous: your mis-matched costumes and use of packing trunks gave it the
feeling of travelling players.” Ian, SSF Co-ordinator
