Record unbeaten season for Colts A team!

We are delighted to announce that our U11 Colts A rugby squad is celebrating its best season ever; 20 games played and 20 games won. This stunning achievement is made even more exceptional by the fact that not only did the boys record a full house of victories, they also tallied up a stunning 503 points while conceding a mere 21 throughout the entire season. Indeed 17 out of the 20 games were won with the opposing side unable to mark a single point!

The determined young rugby players opened their season against Welsh prep school, St John’s on the Hill in Chepstow. Starting as they meant to go on, our Cheltenham boys notched up an impressive score of 52-0. From then on in, the boys dominated every match, including winning two prep school rugby tournaments without conceding a single point. All fingers were crossed for their final match away against Bromsgrove but the boys showed nerves of steel, emerging victorious with a 35-7 score.Deserving special recognition are the leading try scorer, 10 year old Tom Stanton with a total of 19 tries, and the leading points scorer, 10 year old Joss Edwards with a total of 206 points. Remarkably, every single regular member of the team scored at least one try throughout the season, showing just how much of a team effort each win was.

Jonathan Gould, Colts A rugby coach at Cheltenham College Junior School commented: “This has been an exceptional season. Right from the beginning of pre-season training until the final whistle of the last match, these talented boys have given their all. The combination of a high level of skill, a willingness to improve, and an indomitable team spirit has produced a simply outstanding team that has been a delight to coach. As always in sport the winning counts, but it has been the boys’ attitudes, both in training and on the pitch, towards the coaching staff and each other that will stick long in my memory. Special mention must go to Luke Knudsen, who has captained the side superbly all season. He has lead by example, whether being humble in victory or putting in crunching tackles.”

Dick Lewis, Head of Rugby at Cheltenham College Junior School added: This has been the best Colts rugby I have seen at the school in over 10 years. 17 boys were involved throughout the season, with every training session and match being real squad performances. I am extremely proud of the boys and would thank the boys, staff and parents for their valued support throughout the season.”

Adrian Morris, Headmaster of Cheltenham College Junior School concluded: "It has been a wonderful season for everyone connected with the school. I am proud of the squad effort and can honestly say that at times, their rugby has been the best I have seen in my twenty or so years in prep schools throughout the country."
