Religious Studies

During their time at The Junior, the children will study Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism in depth. This helps them to develop a respect and understanding for people of other faiths within their school. Just this year this was reflected in admiration shown to a Muslim boy who was fasting during Ramadan.

In Lower School the curriculum is an exciting journey through the important biblical stories that make up our Christian heritage. The lessons are taught using a range of stimulating interactive computer based resources.

In the Middle and Upper School, the pupils begin to discover the wider meanings and deeper ethical messages behind these stories. These studies eventually form the core of the Common Entrance and Scholarship syllabuses. A major part of Religious Studies course involves the pupils having to think about contemporary issues. They will debate topics ranging from Animal Testing to Capital Punishment and they will consider their responses to them in light of the religious teaching they have previously received.

The main aim of the department is to promote the spiritual and moral development of our pupils and to prepare them to tolerant and respectful members of a multicultural society
