Our ICT Strategy
At College, ICT is part of everything we do, this is why we focus on using ICT in the classroom and in other activities, rather than teaching ICT as a separate subject. All our departments receive training and guidance on how to get the greatest advantage out of the huge range of technology we have available on site, to help all our pupils become confident, independent and safe users of ICT.
All senior pupils are expected to have their own MacBook laptop, this is the core of our one-to-one laptop programme, ensuring all pupils get uniform access to ICT skills and experience, in class, in their boarding houses and at home. At College, we have been an Apple Mac school since the 1980s and have had our one-to-one laptop policy since 2005, so not only are your children getting great access to technology, but it is on the fabulous, user-friendly platform that the Apple Macs are renowned for.
We are constantly reviewing the ICT in teaching and learning that we offer at College, to best suit the needs and ambitions of our pupils. Currently, we do not offer examined courses in ICT or computing. This is largely due to the fact that universities do not consider it a pre-requisite for their ICT or computing degrees.
Our focus therefore, is to give our pupils the skills they need to support the curriculum here at College and support their use of technology outside of school and beyond into their university and working careers.
If you would like more information about the ICT that we cover at College, or advice on what subjects to study to help you get into an IT course at university or into a computing career, please don't hesitate to contact me on the e-mail address below.
We have an experienced and highly effective support team, to help pupils get the most out of their computers. The support office is open every break and lunchtime so that pupils can drop in with any issues they may have. The ICT support office is located in the quad, opposite the door to the dining room (see the map below).
