Cheltenham College has a rich sporting heritage with a history of achieving success in a variety of areas. Today we have an outstanding reputation for the standard of sport at which both our boys and girls teams compete and we are proud to boast of a number of international performers in the current and former pupil body.

Having been involved in the first inter school rugby match in 1844 and continuing to host cricket’s oldest and most famous festival, our sporting tradition has always been marked. The unbeaten 2008 season of the 1st XV and the girls’ 1st XI qualification for the National Hockey Finals in 2010 demonstrates that this tradition continues today.

We are unashamedly proud of the standard of all our teams and athletes and we look to provide them with all that is needed to achieve success, not just on the school stage but also regionally, nationally and internationally.

Not only do we benefit from outstanding facilities, we also have top-level sporting professionals and coaches. We compete against some of the best schools in the country for all our major sports. Smaller pupil numbers, coupled with a full and varied fixture list spanning all sports means that there are opportunities for the vast majority of Cheltonians to represent College at some level.

On top of this there are many programmes and activities available to those who are less competitive, but who still enjoy being active. Just as impressive as the level of our top performers and just as important to us, is the opportunity for all College pupils to achieve and enjoy an active lifestyle. We are committed to developing every pupil though physical endeavor, regardless of his or her level of performance.
