Battle raged on the calm fields of Lower School on Saturday morning. Pretender to the throne King James, was in his castle and King William, in his attempt to lay siege to the Pretender, had run out of cannon balls with which to attack!
Three Regiments of Lower School pupils were tasked with finding the most efficient way of transporting munitions (conkers) across the raging river in the Lower School playground. A variety of inventive methods were tried and modified, including a pulley system, a chute made of bamboo and a track way with a vehicle.
The session culminated in a time trial tournament to find out which Regiment could work best as a team and transport most ‘cannonballs’ across the river. Congratulations to the team which constructed a vehicle and bridge using cereal boxes, string and double sided sticky tape!
“It was really exciting. We made telecabines to transport out cannonballs. I learned that ‘slow and steady’ wins the race.” - Edward Byrne
