Stamping out bullying

Last week, pupils aged 7 to 13 at CCJS were busy designing badges as part of a competition to raise awareness of National Anti-Bullying Week. Assessing each design was Headmaster Mr Scott Bryan, who has turned the winning one into a pin badge that all pupils and staff will wear this week in support of the campaign.

The children came up with some talented drawings, showing real thought and understanding of the sensitive subject. It was 11 year old Kiera Barry however, who most impressed the Headmaster with her design of a group of children all holding hands; a smiley face in the centre. Nine year old Benjamin Ron and seven year old Henry Carless were worthy runners up and will now have their designs turned into posters and displayed throughout the school.

Mr Scott Bryan congratulated the winners on their achievements, commenting: "It is important for everyone to be aware of the issues surrounding bullying and for the children to understand how their actions can impact upon others. No school or organisation should ever pretend that bullying does not exist and it is important that we prepare pupils to deal with such circumstances in preparation for adult life. Our school community is incredibly strong and supportive and I believe that this is central to the happiness and well-being of our pupils.”

Running alongside the competition all week across the whole school are pupil discussions focusing on listening, supporting and being a friend both at school and at home.
